CFS2/FS2000 "McDonnell F2H2 Banshee" FSDS Model re design, F2h2_Banshee.air file, Aircaft.config, Panel, Textures. and Object_dp, by Jim Jacobson: WinterWonder222@yahoo.com. Released as freeware-December 2003.

I know CFS2 is not flown much anymore, FS2004 is the bulk of the files online now. However, its winter 2003 and if your like me, you still like to fly a little CFS2 when is dark out and the snow and cold keep you indoors. I was over at www.sim-outhouse.com and I heard about this plane in discussion about my ToKori Mission. The F2H2 Banshee is very similiar to the F9 Panther.Made by McDonnell, it was used by the Navy and Marines during the Korean War as a fighter/Attack aircraft. It was slightly more power full and heavier than the F9 with a distinctive twin engine exhaust on each wing. Still, like the panhter, it had a relatively small bomb load by todays standards for a Fighter/Attack aircraft. But, It was part of the first generation jet aircraft/straight wing configuration and part of the evolution of the Fighter/Attack class. Further developement was the F2H-3 and 4 Banshee which increased the size,weight, power, and wing configuration of that of the F2H2. So, if you want to go back and get a chance to fly the Korean era of the Fighter/Attack, give it a spin. Maybe, like me, you can always use a new plane to practice traps.....

Installation:

1. Unzip the entire contents to a temporary folder.

2. Copy and paste the F2H2_Banshee folder to your C:\Combat Flight Simulator 2\Aircraft folder.

3. Copy and paste the gauge files from the \Gauges folder to your C:\Combat Flight Simulator 2\Gauge folder. CFS2 users dont over write the default gauges ... those are included for FS2000 users. Just say No to overwrite.

4. Copy and paste the wep_Banshee_DropTAnk.db to your C:\Combat Flight Simulator 2\Objects_DP Folder. similiarly, copy the wep_Banshee_DropTank.bgl to your C:\Combat Flight Simulator 2\Scenedb\weapons\scenery folder and Banshee_Camo.bmp to the C:\Combat Flight Simulator 2\Scenedb\weapons\texture folder.

5. I have included diff damage profiles. One is for stock(Default) CFS2 weapons. The other is for ......

So if you want better looking weapons you will have to download from the different sites and follow install instructions for each kit. The default F2H2_Banshee.dp is for stock CFS2 weapons

6. I have included two \ModelTankExtView folders. The first is for Droptanks to be always present in both external and internal views. If you drop your tanks they will fall off but there are some below that remain. This is for those who prefer to see drop tanks all the time. The second \ModelNoTanksExtView Folder is for those who want tanks to be gone when they drop them. either way you are dumping your tank fuel. The default \Model is ...TanksExtView.
In the real Banshee .. I am not sure if drop tanks actually dropped off in combat. I think they were called drop tanks but were meant to be put on and taken off at the airfield or Carrier?. In simulator, they will drop off in flight. select the weapon using back space key. then arm the drop by hitting enter ... then approve drop by hitting enter again.
If you find that you accidentally drop the tanks instead of bombs and you wish to opt out of the drop option but still want the tanks... use dpedit 1.10 or notepad to remove the drop option

Change...

mount.0=wep_Banshee_DropTank, 1, -1
mount.1=wep_Banshee_DropTank, 1, 0

to

mount.0=wep_Banshee_DropTank, 1, 1
mount.1=wep_Banshee_DropTank, 1, 1

Flight Operation

1. The simulator tail hook (Shift H) does not lower the visual tail hook. Use the last Flap setting to pull back canopy and lower tail hook.

2. Dive brakes/spoiler operates with the "D" Key

Thats it... have fun.....
